NOTICEBOARD - 14th Dec. 2011

  • 33063 - it won't be long before it gets sheeted over for the winter. The batteries are to receive some attention in the coming weeks.
  • 33065 - entered the shed in the summer to begin a lengthy overhaul which is thought will take at least 5 years to complete. The cabs are gradually being dismantled, the roof grills (along the side) are in the process of being removed to allow access to the big bits, while the bodywork and cab-surounds are being poked at in a bid to get a better idea of just how much reconstructive surgery will be required - normally quite a bit on 50-year old BRC+W products!
  • Diesel Gala Page - we'll have to wait a while for our next event in 2012, but in case you fancied a look back at the 2011 event or indeed a few before that, take a look at our Gala page.
  • WEBSERVER change : the website is very gradually migrating to a change of webserver. Ongoing as it is, you may find some pages go to 'error' while those pages await reloading on the new server.

    Welcome to the S.E.L.G. website

Our webpages aim to inform SELG members and the wider 'Crompton' world of our operations, developments and news on aspects of the South East locomotive Group.

There is a wealth of information, built up over a number of years, contained within the menus on the left of the screen (recent, clickable, Updates to the site are in the bottom left corner). Note that in most menus, older files tend to be at the bottom of listings, whilst recent items tend to be towards the top.

For the uninitiated, the pages of this site chart the recent history of the Group including:-

    • Transporting the two 'Cromptons' to the East Kent Railway & their subsequent return to working order.
    • Past Special Events like Galas and 'Crompton' weekends.
    • Our Cromptons at the Spa Valley Rly. (from 2003)
    • 33063 named "R.J.Mitchell", Sept. 2005.
    • Driver Experience days for the discerning enthusiast.
    • News and updates on other Crompton activity in the U.K.
    • '427', an 0-6-0 diesel-hydraulic shunting loco, relingquished from SELG ownership in Jan.2004.
    • Occasional articles on Crompton-related subjects like railtours (past and present) and Class 33's in years gone by.
The SELG operates three levels of membership; Full Owner members, Part Owners and Supporters. See the MEMBERSHIP MATTERS section under the MORE SELG ITEMS option, for details.
