31466 VISITS THE KEIGHLEY & WORTH VALLEY RLY.
DIESEL GALA, MAY 2012

(photos by L.Wayman except where stated)

Invited to the K+WVR earlier in the year, 31466 received something of a 'spit and polish' including a good tidy-up and repaint of both cabs, internally, during the weeks leading up to the Yorkshire jaunt. We also had the loan of a good set of batteries which alaid any fears of problematic starting.

466 was collected on 23/5 by DRS' 57003, not 33012 as originally planned, due to the well publicised over-heating axle. Having already picked up 50026 from Eastleigh, the trio set off for an over-nighter in Burton before the final leg to Keighley on 24/5.

After the Gala, 466 would return to the DFR early the following week.

As well as our smattering of images here, there's an absolute plethora of stuff on Flickr, Youtube and others. Here are just a few links, in no particular order (be it of merit or otherwise).

The first four images taken on 18/4/12 record some of the work put in on the cab interiors for a couple of months before the loco left for K+WVR.

Cab 1 - in an identical fashion to that undertaken in cab 2, the driver's desk has the gauges removed to allow a thorough clean and rub-down.

Meanwhile, at the other end, cab 2 is nearly complete, save for re-instatement of labelling and sundry minor details.

Under the cab floor, the opportunity was taken to replace some pipework, corrosion being found as the source of recent, niggling air leaks.

A refurbished seat frame(cab 1), ready for re-assembly; the kit of bits stored conveniently in one of the many catering-sized, coffee containers, used for such purposes.

Margerine tubs (de-greased) make useful nut+bolt trays as well as paint kettles (although NOT at the same time!).
