D7633/25283/25904

D7633 in workshop #2, Lydney Jcn.

Withdrawn in 3/87, 25283 found itself at the Severn Valley Rly. by Jan. 1988, via Vic Berry's and Tysley Loco Works. Owned and operated by the Pway gang, the Type 2 was put into two-tone green livery and pre-TOPS identity, D7633. After purchase by D.Hurd in October'03, 7633 was transferred to Lydney Jcn. on 30/10/03, suffering from poor external condition, a number of faults and not having run for two years. The loco was due to undergo a thorough spell of assessment, repair and full repaint during 2004 but time did not permit. 7633 is pictured, above, on 28th Dec.03 under the temporary structure that is the DFDA's "workshop #2".

The Type 2 is effectively laid-up (Apr/10) having made only occasional appearances due to its general condition. One of the last such outings was in July 2006, as captured here on 29/7/06, about to run round at Parkend during a diesel running day.

Judging by previous notes, this may be the first time in 4 years that 7633 turned a wheel under its own power. On 9th Nov 2005, the Type 2 is seen moving 27066 & 73101 as a test load of around 150t in the DFDA siding at Lydney Jcn.. As yet, very little attention has been paid to the bodywork which is quite poor in places. Enquiries were made externally with a view to accelerating the restoration, but nothing came of it in the end.
