DFR Diesel Gala 19th May 2012

Tues.15th May 2012 : 4 days before the DFR's Diesel Gala, 31466 is off to Norchard to recieve a F.T.R. exam, in readyness for the mainline transfer for the short visit to the K+WVR and it's Gala on the weekend of 25-27th May.

31466 over the pit at Norchard. The loco's external paintwork had recieved something of an uplift in the days leading up to the exam, the EWS maroon having weathered a little since the livery was re-applied in early 2009.

With the loco visiting the K+WVR in May/12, the opportunity was taken to recondition both cabs internaly, with much stripping out, repairs, rebuild and repainting. Some welding of corrosion and replacement of various bits was undertaken, and the results are pretty good.
Sat.19th May 2012 : The one and only Diesel Gala at the DFR in 2012, all the other days when diesels operate were/are one train only on the standard timetable.

08238 'Charlie', 'Teddy Bear' D9521, 31466 and E6001 (73001) were in operation, plus the appearance of a demo-freight in the shape of several dogfish ballast wagons, top'n tailed with a Queen Mary and Shark brakevans. The PDF roster is HERE.

With the 11.05 ex-Parkend, 08238 runs into Whitecroft. The new station here was due to open the following weekend. See captions below for more details.

31466 comes around the curve south of Whitecroft with the 11.30 Lydney East Loop to Parkend demo-freight.

31466 passes through the new-build Whitecroft station with the 11.30 Lydney East Loop to Parkend demo-freight. The original station building last saw regular passenger services in 1929 and demolished c.1968. A few more pictures on 'Rail Photo Archive' of the new station can be seen HERE and HERE.

Parkend - 31466 slowly sets back onto the stock to form the 12.27 to Lydney Jnc..

E6001 arives at Parkend with the 11.55 ex-Lydney Jcn., 31466 would depart but minutes later on the 12.27 to Lydney. For these fews minutes, the 14, 31, ED, both MK1 sets and the freight were at Parkend (headshunt and both platforms).

In good time, E6001 draws forward out of the headshunt with the demo-freight to form the 12.57 to Lydney West Loop (via Norchard L.L.).

E6001 on that 12.57 freight for Lydney West Loop (via Norchard L.L.) passing through the western edge of Oakenhill Wood, between Parkend and Whitecroft. The verdant forestry is testiment to one of the wettest Aprils since records began.
